FGN Orders NFF To Account For Missing Millions Of Dollars – From Super Falcons Cash To FIFA, CAF Grants

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) through the Sports Ministry has ordered the NFF led by President Ibrahim Gusau to account for several Millions of US Dollars received from FIFA for the Super Falcons 2023 World Cup preparations as well as various development grants.

The FGN gave the NFF a deadline of Thursday, July 13, 2023, to get through a detailed account of these monies.

In a memo dated July 7 and signed by the Sports Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Ismaila Abubakar, the FGN said the request was necessisated by the on-going media war between the Falcons coach Randy Waldrum and his employers, the NFF.

Waldrum, among other allegations, said the NFF did not spend the $960,000 FIFA paid them to prepare the team for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will kick off shortly in Australia and New Zealand.

The Ministry’s correspondence said the Falcons preparatory games leading to the World Cup were invitational matches paid for by host countries and no money from FIFA was used to prepare the women’s national team.

The Government also specified an account of a FIFA 3.0 Development Project fund of a Million Dollars the NFF received in January 2023 as well as another Million Dollars they expect from FIFA at the end of this month.

It also demanded for a proper account of sponsorship monies as well as CAF and FIFA grants received by NFF since January 2021.
