‘Dan Arewa’ Aminu Kurfi Waxing Stronger For Nigeria Football

Since the very popular departure of Amaju Pinnick, Aminu Kurfu aka ‘Dan Arewa’ (PICTURED middle) has emerged  as the most prominent football administrator, even more visible than new NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.

The Katsina FA Chairman owes his recent prominence to his chairmanship of the Task Force to supervise the nation’s underage teams.

‘Dan Arewa’ has supported financially the National U23 Team, the Flamingos as well as the Flying Eagles and that included paying part of the flight rickets for the U23s to Tanzania recently.

Many now regard the former Katsina United Chairman as the real power behind the Gusau Presidency.

Rumours even have it that Kurfi bankrolled Gusau’s ascension to the NFF Presidency.

It is even said that against all odds, he made it possible for the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja to grant the NFF the right for the NFF Elections to go ahead as planned in Benin City in September.

Kurfi earned the nickname ‘Jagaban’ when he single handedly financed ‘The Concerned FA Chairmen’ that eventually led to another court order to be shelved for an Extra-ordinary AGA to be held in Lagos, where a road map for the NFF Elections was drawn.

Then outgoing NFF President Pinnick lavished special praise on ‘Dan Arewa’ for this role on the floor of the AGA.

The question now is – why has Kurfi spared no expenses to support the new NFF administration?

Speculations are rife that the man, who in the 90s was a personal assistant to then NFF President Abdulmumini Aminu, has his eyes on the NFF Presidency in 2026.

So, is Gusau merely warming the NFF hot seat for ‘Dan Arewa’?
