FIFA Go Soft On Nigeria After World Cup Riot

World soccer ruling body, FIFA, have handed what many consider light sanctions on Nigeria after fans went on rampage following the country’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA have imposed a 150,000 Swiss Franc (about 154,128.75 USD) fine on Nigeria and the Super Eagles will play their next home game behind closed doors, which will be a 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone next month.

This followed the unruly behaviour of the fans at the end of the second leg Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off between the Super Eagles and Black Stars of Ghana at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 29.

The match ended 1-1 for Ghana to advance to Qatar on the away goals rule after both teams had played a goalless draw in Kumasi in the first game.
