PROJECT 2022- Why PFAN Boycotted Illegal NFF Congress

A Congress hurriedly put together by The Imperial Majesty of the NFF Amaju Pinnick 1 for tenure elongation to retain his Kingdom and circumvent the PFAN 90-day mandatory notice to amend the NFF STATUTES 2010 was boycotted by PFAN for falling short of laid down rules, regulations and the Rule Book.

It would be recalled that on the 26th of June 2021 PFAN through its Task Force made the following demands in Warri, Delta State.

Amendment of the current NFF STATUTES 2010 in the following aspects –

(a) Composition of its Congress

(b) Composition of its Executive Committee

(c) Voting pattern

(d) Any other relevant provisions of the NFF STATUTES 2010 in consonance with FIFA, CAF NFF and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended as well as in line with relevant provisions of Article 27 sub 1&2 of the NFF STATUTES 2010.

The leaches in the NFF led by Amaju Pinnick, who now suddenly sees the need for a cosmetic amendment of the STATUTES, threw caution to the wind in desperation to convey an illegal Congress on the 8th of August 2021 in Benin City.

This was to get their already skewed Congress dominated by States Football Association Chairmen to vote for a cosmetic amendment of the NFF STATUTES.

The NFF, in their bid to manipulate the Congress, sent a vague letter of invitation dated 29th July to members with a bogus agenda “AMENDMENT” without stating the section of the STATUTES to be amended or which member proposed such amendment.

Kudos must be given to the President Tijjani Babangida-led PFAN that despite the pressure and alleged attempted inducement mounted on them, they stood their ground that the Congress was illegally conveyed and that the NFF must address the complaints raised by the PFAN task force before them by engaging the leadership of the players’ union.

This is very commendable of the PFAN leadership.

The Task Force is making a clarion call to all current and retired footballers to rally round and give their unflinching support to the Tijjani Babangida-led PFAN.

We have a leadership in the players’ union now that will redefine the future of Nigeria football.

The PFAN Task Force on its part is assuring all current and retired footballers that make up the footballers bloc that the Task Force has the competence, character and capacity to ensure the footballers bloc has majority in the composition of a new NFF Congress and NFF Board.
