Don’t Pay Peseiro Salary Through NFF Gara Gombe Warns President Tinubu

Nigeria Football Stakeholder Ahmed Gara Gombe has sounded a note of warning to President Bola Tinubu – pay coach Jose Peseiro directly and not through his employers, the NFF.

President Tinubu has okayed $1.3 million to clear the salaries of the Super Eagles coach as they gear up for the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

Former Gombe FA Chairman Gara Gombe said: “The Federal Government should pay directly to Peseiro’s account.”

Gombe also questioned the Government picking up the salary of the coach.

“The Sports Minister misled the President to pay this money,” he maintained.

“Whoever advised the President to pay $1.3 is an enemy of Nigeria.”

The Portuguese coach, who took charge of the national team in May 2022, is owed salary for many months.

His intial contract with the NFF paid him $70,000, but this has since been reviewed downwards to $50,000.

His contract will be reviewed after the 2023 AFCON in February after the NFF set a semifinal target for him.
