IMC Puts Final Nail On LMC Coffin As New NFF President Gusau Plays Government ‘Good Boy’
The Interim Management Committee (IMC) for the NPFL will on Friday officially put the final nail on the coffin of the defunct LMC as newly-elected NFF President Ibrahim Gusau (PICTURED right with Sports Minister) has continued to play the “good boy” for the Federal Government to come to the rescue of the cash-strapped football federation.
He who pays the piper dictates the tune and so far Gsau, himself a civil servant in Zamfara State, has been in full agreement to that notion as the FGN remains the main financier of the NFF despite claims to the contrary by former President Amaju Pinnick.
Of great interest is that Gusau has been able to get on board some members of his kitchen cabinet who were not on the original IMC – Sokoto FA Chairman Mohammed Nasiru Saidu and his Bayelsa counterpart Poubeni Ogun.
Sports Minister Sunday Dare appointed the Interim Management Committee for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and Gusau will inaugurate the committee on Friday in Abuja.
The inauguration will take place at the NFF Conference Room inside the NFF Secretariat, Abuja on by 11am.
In a press statement announcing the composition of the IMC, the Youth and Sports Development Ministry stated that the move was “in line with the 10-year Football Masterplan as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari towards the revitalization of the Domestic League” and that the IMC would be in place to “oversee the affairs of the League until a proper professional League Board is put in place statutorily.”
However, top technocrats have questioned the legal basis for this Committee as it was not the making of the NFF, more of a direct interference by Government.
