How Will ‘Preferred Government Candidate’ Seyi Akinwunmi Get Back On NFF Executive Committee?

Former NFF 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi was the “preferred candidate” by Government at the last Elections in Benin City, but he still ended up a distant second to newly-elected President Ibrahim Gusau.

www.insideglasshouse.com has always rated Akinwunmi as a political lightweight and that he only enjoyed the grace of Amaju Pinnick in the last eight years to keep his post as the NFF No 2 man all those years.

The lawyer boasted of one of the biggest war chests going into the polls in Benin – besides the huge financial support he received from Lagos State, a club owner from the South West also donated $250,000 to his campaign.

It was further gathered that his powerful backers also hounded his two main rivals for the NFF Presidency with very little success.

The result was that he not only lost his bid to be President, he also lost control of the South West, where he could only muster three of the seven votes on offer there.

However, his high-ranking backers have still not given up hope they could still get the Lagos FA Chairman on the new NFF Board.

It was gathered that the option of getting Felix Anyansi-Agwu to step down  as 1st Vice President and go on to run for Elections as Chairman of the NPFL is not feasible as the long-serving Enyimba Chairman won his own Election on the floor of the NFF Congress fair and square.

The other option now being considered is for him represent Remo Stars in the NPFL polls with the approval of the Chairman of the Ikenne club, Kunle Soname, who was also also a major backer of the Akinwunmi Presidency.

It is left to be seen if this arrangement could be finalised to get Akinwunmi back on the NFF Executive Committee.
