Gusau Leads Race To Succeed Pinnick, Shehu Dikko A Non-Starter

Chairman of Chairmen Ibrahim Gusau (PICTURED) is now the front runner to succeed outgoing NFF President Amaju Pinnick, LMC Chairman Shehu Dikko is a non-starter, while FCT FA Chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed could be the dark horse, but he has yet to declare his interest.

Pinnick has thrown the race for the NFF Presidency wide open, when he declared at Thursday’s Congress in Lagos that he does not have a candidate.

He told the General Assembly: “I don’t have any candidate. Everybody is my candidate.

“Just vote your conscience.”

“Gusau is already acting Presidential,” an FA Chairman wondered out loud.

“He was seen barking out orders even at the General Secretary at the Congress.”

www.insideglasshouse.com exclusively gathered that Gusau and Mouktar Mohammed along with Aminu Kurfi Balele, who has maintained he is not in the race, were invited by former FIFA Executive Member Amos Adamu to his house in Lagos immediately after the Congress.

It is not yet known what was discussed at this meeting.

This month, the powerful Northern Caucus in Kano resolved to back a candidate from its region for the exalted post.

With the support of his close ally and Kano FA Chairman, Sharif Inuwa Ahlan, Zamfara FA Chairman Gusau has already built bridges across in South South and South West.

For some time now, there has been an understanding for Gusau to be President with Rivers FA Chairman Chris Green to return to the Board as Vice President.

Election venue Benin City will favour Gusau as he is very much at home there courtesy of his relationship with Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu.

Mouktar Mohammed could be a major threat though for Gusau should he decide to enter the race.

He was the focal point at the Congress in Lagos and the various camps in the Congress are now aggressively wooing him.

However, the same cannot be said of Shehu Dikko, whose total mismanagement of the NPFL as LMC Chairman will very much work against him.

Under Shehu Dikko, the NPFL is no longer on television, the league has lost sponsors as well as integrity.

One FA Chairman dismissed the chances of Shehu Dikko, saying his closeness with outgoing President Pinnick will further go against him.

“He ceded his birth right since 2014 by opting to work very closely with the man who conned him out of the Presidency then,” he said.

Shehu Dikko’s main ally is Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’, who has lost momentum in terms of following and resources since he was dropped as Chairman of the Referees Appointment Committee.
