Government Insists On NFF Elections Next Month

The Federal Government of Nigeria has insisted that the NFF Elections must go ahead next month according to the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari (PICTURED) and in line with the NFF Statutes.

NFF President Amaju Pinnick, whose tenure ends on September 20, 2022, has this week written to world football governing body FIFA asking for his time in office to be extended to January 2023, when Elections will then be held.

He said the tenure elongation is on account of “legal problems” facing the NFF.

However, the Sports Ministry is unimpressed with this argument and in a letter signed by its Permanent Secretary Ismaila Abubakar, the Government made it very clear the NFF Elections be conducted as stipulated next month.

“The Honourable Minister hereby reiterates that the Elective Congress of the NFF should be held in line with the President and Commander-in-Chief’s earlier directive regarding compliance with the NFF Statutes since the tenure of the current NFF Board will terminate before the end of September 2022. All within the fine lines of FIFA Statutes,” Abubakar informed NFF President Pinnick.
