Government Gives Guaranty For Nigeria To Host AFCON – Minister

Sports Minister Sunday Dare has disclosed that his ministry has received a Government guaranty for Nigeria to host the AFCON.

Dare made this revelation in a radio interview this week.

“We have provided a Government guaranty to CAF, which is a pre-requisite for you to host an important international competition like the AFCON,” the Sports Minister disclosed.

“This means that Nigeria is ready for consideration for any international competition.”

The Minister listed the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo as well as the National Stadium Surulere as possible venues for such a tournament.

Nigeria has hosted the AFCON twice, first in 1980, and then 2000, when the country co-hosted with Ghana.
