Clubs Boycott Federation Cup Quarterfinals Over Scandalous Gift Of Continental Ticket To Kwara United

Today, all eight quarterfinalists of this year’s Federation Cup lived up to their threat not to continue Nigeria’s oldest competition after the continental ticket they thought they were fighting for was scandalously gifted Kwara United.

It has been widely alleged that NFF President Amaju has been desperately courting the Kwara State Governor to support his unpopular third term bid and as a result connived with other top officials to get Kwara United, who finished fourth in the NPFL last season, to be the team to represent the country in the CAF Confederation Cup.

This is the continental slot reserved for the eventual winners of this year’s Federation Cup after Remo Stars, who placed third in the NPFL, earned the other ticket to the Confederation Cup.

The total boycott of the cup competition has thus compromised its integrity and put in grave danger chances of attracting another title sponsor as the agreement with the Aiteo Group has since ended.
