Top FIFA Official To Visit Nigeria After NFF Letter To World Football Body

A top-ranked FIFA official is now most likely to visit Nigeria on a fact-finding visit after the NFF Executive Committee led by Amaju Pinnick wrote to the world football governing body intimating them of the logjam in the country’s football.

The Executive Committee had asked FIFA for advice after a court order stopped the NFF Congress convening since December 2021 and that elections were due to be conducted in September.

This move by the Pinnick administration was not made known to the NFF Congress.

Speculations are even rife that the Executive Committee may have asked FIFA to elongate their tenure beyond September on account of this impasse.

FIFA do not have the power to extend the tenure of an affiliate member and such extension is also not known to the NFF Statutes.

However, a majority number of FA Chairmen has since got the litigants to agree to withdraw the case from the Federal High Court in Yenagoa.

But at the same time, several other matters have emerged after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the NFF to amend their Statutes to accommodate more Stakeholders and also hold Elections not later than September.
