Pinnick Third Term Agenda: Will Seyi Akinwunmi Be The Sacrificial Lamb?

Lagos State FA boss Seyi Akinwunmi is NFF 1st Vice President (Pictured) and most importantly these days, the go-to-guy of President Amaju Pinnick.

That is why the lawyer heads several of the crucial sub-committees of the football house.

Most recently he has been saddled with the added responsibilities of Chairman of the NFF Statutes Amendment committee as well as Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Aisha Buhari invitational tournament.

But could all these plum posts just be parting gifts for Akinwunmi?

The story is that the North has made it clear it is done with the Southern domination at the helm of the NFF – President Pinnick (South South) and 1st Vice President Akinwunmi (South West).

Some have even suggested that if Pinnick hoped to return, he will have to promise the North Akinwunmi’s post.

This comes at a time Akinwunmi is battling his old friend and NRA boss Tade Azeez for the exalted position of the Lagos FA chairmanship amid rumours that Pinnick has gone ahead of him to reach Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to persuade Akinwunmi not to seek the NFF Presidency.

Seyi himself has his own presidential aspirations and he is believed to be counting on some top government officials from the South West – his Yoruba brothers – to make his dream to come true.

So, it is now really a cat-and-mouse game between The Barrister and his friend and boss.

Who will outsmart the other?
